While talking to students about FGM, the team also takes the opportunity to discuss other forms of violence against women and girls. This includes child marriage, sexual harassment, assault and all forms of intimate partner violence.

Domestic abuse is common in The Gambia, where it is widely accepted that a husband has rights over his wife. During our time in schools, we ensure that male and female students (and staff) understand the rights and responsibilities of each partner in a relationship – and particularly the right of a woman to be free from abuse.
